Ilene's Book: Dancing With Lou Gehrig's Disease

I have just put together a book of Ilene’s poems, art and writings. I am self-publishing it through lulu.com.. The book is a nice complement to the conversations between her and Carol. It contains both writings and art work from just before her diagnosis up until a few days before her transition.

BTW, the title stems from our working together on the narrative I am writing about our experience with ALS. I had thought of it as Ilene’s (and mine and Margarita’s) struggle with ALS. Several months before she died she convinced me that she saw it not as a struggle but as a dance. She wanted the story we were working on to be seen as a dance.

She had that rare ability to turn a dismal vision toward a life-affirming direction.

Her book reveals much about how she achieved that shift through many detours, dead ends and retracings of her path.
